My friend, Willie says life reminds her of a box of crayons and if we look closely we can all learn something. I gave her statement quite a lot of thought. I’ve had Crayola crayons in my life since I was a little girl. Yes, Crayola has been around that long. As a little girl the only thing I thought about when my mother bought me a new box was how very delighted I was to be the recipient of such a gift.
First of all there’s nothing in the world like the fragrance wooshing out when you raise the lid on a brand spankin’ new box of Crayola Crayons. After you inhale that lovely scent and let your heart and your mind settle a little you find the prize, new coloring tools all lined in a row just waiting to be used.
I saw a survey once that had people of all ages; men, women and children answer this question, what is your favorite smell of all time? New car smell was one scent, bread baking and coffee perking were runners-up. Granted they all do smell good, but number one was the heavenly smell of a newly opened box of Crayola crayons.
When you look at a box of crayons what is the first thing you think? Like me, is it the pretty colors or the way they look in the box, maybe it’s the fragrance or the newness of the coloring tool. Is that really all there is to what resides in the yellow and green box? Most likely we would all agree crayons smell and look good and they are indeed a good tool for coloring, but what else?
Wait a minute, stop for just sixty seconds and think how they might just remind us of life, the world and the people in it. There are red ones, and yellow ones. They never think about not sitting side by side. There are black and brown ones, white ones too, they stand together. Some are short. Some crayons are tall. Do the taller ones make fun of the shorter ones? I’ve never heard of a fuss. How about the bright ones or the pale ones? There are ones who are blue, sad perhaps. Some are sharp while others pretty darn dull, but hey, I don’t hear anyone grumbling.
They don’t complain about being cramped together, they don’t even frown when sitting next to someone extremely dull or not their color. No matter what color, what size, how sharp or how dull, they get along with their neighbor.
Put them all together they blend and make a rainbow. They live in harmony
What a concept.
